"So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has given him under the sun." Ecclesiastes 8:15

Weekend Update

..with Kim Bauer!  Ha! One of my favorite skits on SNL.  Especially when they do Stephan, "Really!?!" and Drunk Uncle.  Oh and the couple that make up the songs as they go along.  We DVR SNL, which I think makes it much more enjoyable because then you can fast forward through the not-so-great skits.  It also makes me think of watching SNL to find skits for the variety show for Singers in High School.  Such good memories.

ANYWAY......

We went up to KC this weekend to spend some time with Kodi, since she isn't coming home for Thanksgiving.  I was able to go see my friend Lauren from Nursing School, and meet her precious baby girl.  It was so nice to catch up and swap nursing details of our stories that nobody else is interested in! lol.  We have already decided that Lyle and Nora will be married some day, so it was probably a good thing that they met! :)
We made them hold hands! hahah
In the afternoon we went to a cousin's birthday party for a bit, then the girls went to the Holiday Boutique.  So fun!  It would have been a very dangerous place if Lyle was a girl...so many cute bows and outfits!  We found plenty of time to eat and Lyle got some good play time with his Aunt.  We went swimming in the hotel pool Saturday night.  Lyle loved it!

We went home Sunday afternoon, but I had Monday off of work, so it was nice to have a catch up day.  Lyle and I went for a walk in the afternoon.  It was wonderful!  So thankful for time with family!

Wedding Weekend

We had a great trip out to South Carolina to see my older brother, Mike get married!  Lyle did great on the plane ride.  I was worried that his ears would bother him, but with a combination of nursing and having his pacifier, he did really well!

It was great to have all of the family together.  We hadn't seen my siblings who live farther away since Lyle was about 6 weeks old, so it was definitely time!  Other than getting together for the rehearsal and wedding festivities we mostly hung out at the hotel together.   Lyle made friends wherever we went...he just smiled at everybody!  He was really excited when we were taking family pictures that he had a whole group of girls yelling his name and smiling at him!

High Five for Friday!

Friday Friday Friday!  My top 5 today!

1. It is finally Friday!  This seems like a long crazy week.  I have had to go in early to work to do flu shot clinics out at the schools, and then we had something everynight.  Weeks like this wear me out (plus getting sick doesn't help either).

2.  A weekend at home to get things done!  We have been out of town/busy the last few weekends and our house desperately needs to be cleaned.

3.  Lyle is coming to work with me today for the last few hours!  I miss my little guy while I'm at work, and it will make the last bit of work go by quickly.

4.  Hot Chocolate, Tea, Apple Cider, and Coffee.  I love that it is getting cold enough to enjoy all of these drinks again!  Nothing better on a cold day (Other than having regular coffee, but decaf will have to do for now!)

5.  Craft Plans.  I have a few new projects that I am starting-sorry they are all suprises! But how I wish Hobby Lobby was in town.  Alco and Doller General are quite dissapointing in the craft department.

What are you excited about today?  Link up your High Five For Friday post here.

Back to Work...With Lyle and Without

I have a small fear of daycare.  Maybe it was because I never went as a child, or because I had to inspect daycares as a part of my job, or because they are taking care of up to ten children by themselves when I know just how busy one child can keep you.  Whatever the reason, I really did not want Lyle to need to go to daycare once I went back to work.  Thankfully I have found other options.

Sleeping with Sandra at the front desk
My work allowed me to bring Lyle with me, ever since I returned from my maternity leave.  I will admit I was nervous about how well it would work.  I am a nurse at our local health department, and there are several times a day when I need to be in a exam room with a patient, without a little baby in my arms.  In my mind I started bringing him on a trial basis, and if it didn't work, I would find something else.  But I work with some amazing women.  And they all adopted Lyle, and helped me out more than I could have imagined.  When patients would come in, he would just switch hands and go play at someone else's desk.  My boss even had a little play mat and toys in her office for him. It made breastfeeding so much easier, being able to feed on demand rather than trying to figure out how often to pump.  There were challenges, especially on days he was cranky (he seemed to know it was a Monday like the rest of us!), or when we were really busy and his feeding schedule was disturbed.  Looking back, I am so glad I was able to bring him with me.  It was a comfort not leaving him with someone else when he was only seven weeks old, and I loved the extra time I was able to spend with him.
In his bouncy seat...he looks so unimpressed
Playing on his quilt in my office

I write all of this because yesterday was his first day with my friend Annie who will be watching him.  The timing worked out well, and she will be splitting time watching Lyle at her house and at ours.  She has a one year old son, and it will be good for Lyle to have someone to play with.  It made me happy to hear that when he got picked up yesterday, they were playing outside, looking at the chickens.  That's something he was missing out on here...being able to play and be outside.  I was sad though.  More sad than I thought I would be.  I miss my little guy talking and smiling with me throughout the day.  But it is good, and I am blessed.

Meeting the Rest of the Family

It took about 6 weeks, but Lyle was finally able to meet the rest of his Aunts and Uncles!  It was great to spend time with family during those first few weeks-this little guy is well loved!

Auntie Kristen (lives in Arkansas)

Uncle Mike (lives in South Carolina)

Uncle Jeff (Senior at K-State)

Auntie Kodi (lives in Olathe)

We met great Aunts and Uncles too, but unfortunately I don't have very many pictures of that!  I need to realize that even if other people have their cameras out, I need to be taking pictures too!  Their pictures don't end up on my computer quite as easily! :)

Lyle Holden Bauer

First, let me apologize for not posting since Lyle was born.  It's been a little crazy, especially since I've been back at work.  I'll post a few catch-up posts, then go from there!

Lyle was born on April 23, on his due date.  I had given up hope that he would come on his own, and we had been scheduled to be induced two days later.  My water broke about 2:30AM and we got up to the hospital about 4.  Things went pretty quickly from there, and he was born by C-Section at 9:33AM.  He was 9blbs 12oz and just too big to come naturally!  The doctors had thought he might be big (a sonogram 1 1/2 weeks earlier predicted 8lbs 6 oz), but I think everyone was a little suprised at his size!

New Family!

Meeting Grammy and Papa Bauer

Meeting Uncle Than, Auntie Carrie, and Cousin Zoe

Meeting Grandaddy and Gigi Norris

I think this is my favorite picture!  We had newborn pictures taken in the hospital by the photographer there.  We were really happy with how they turned out!

A little bit about his name....
Lyle was Zach's grandfather's name.  He was a wonderful man from all the stories I have been told.  We thought it was a great way to honor someone so special.
Holden is the name of the beach Kim's family used to vacation at each summer in North Carolina with her grandparents.  It holds some of her most precious memories and reminds her of her wonderful Nana and Papa.

So Lyle Holden represents both sides of the family and just a representation of all the people we love!  We also liked the idea that he wouldn't have the same name as five other kids in his class! :)

A Tale of THREE Bauers

We are here, alive and well!  I apologize for the lack of blog posts since Lyle was born!  Things have been a little busy for some strange reason! :)  Also, Zach's computer crashed, so I am waiting for his new one to arrive to be able to load the pictures from our camera.  I mean really...what good is a blog post about the new baby without any pictures!! So I promise more posts are coming soon! :)

Baby Shower

Our church had a baby shower for us on Saturday morning.  They had a wonderful devotion for us and yummy food!  Such a fun morning...we are so blessed by this church family!

Baby gifts are so cute!

Wedding Festivites

What a crazy and fun weekend we had celebrating Kodi getting married!  And can you believe that I made it home without a single picture??  Ridiculous!!  Zach's uncle, Tom, was much better at taking pictures...so I will include a few from him.

We headed up to Kansas City Wednesday night after work. (A day of work that included doing hearing/vision tests on next year's Kindergarten class.  Oh my goodness were they cute!)  Thursday the girls went to get our nails done while the boys ran errands.  I went back to the hotel to take a nap before the rehearsal...I wimped out several times and took naps over the weekend! :)  We had a quick rehearsal at the church that evening, and dinner consisted of Shawn's favorite foods:  pizza and buffalo wings.  This made me think of my little brother Jeffrey's graduation party food requests:  hot dogs and gummy worms.  lol silly boys!  Afterwards I went back to Kodi's to help her pack, then off to bed!
Friday we were able to take it easy in the morning, as the wedding didn't start until 7.  We went to the church after lunch to get ready, take  pictures, then it was wedding time!  We had a little adventure taking pictures outside..thankfully Tom and others were there to help me climb hills and through grass in my dress!  Kodi was beautiful...and everything went so well!  Their wedding and reception was movie themed...complete with press kits, a movie poster, popcorn, candy, and soda.  Such cute ideas!

Look at my big belly!!!

I really felt pretty good through the whole day...my feet were hurting and I was tired by the end, but I think everybody else was too! :)

We were able to enjoy time with family and friends on Saturday and Sunday...and lots and lots of food!

Gender:  BOY!!!

What I miss: Being able to go the mall/clean/walk up the stairs without getting tired.

Cravings: Girl Scout Cookies were delivered this week!  woo-hoo!!!

Symptoms:  Back and hip pain.  We went to the mall with Kodi on Saturday and I was waddling pretty good by the end of the day! lol

Valentine's Day

I had a doctors appointment on Valentine's Day.  When I got home Zach and I made dinner and relaxed at home...just what we needed!

This print was in my nursery when I was little.  Zach had it re-matted and framed for me....I love it! :) So special.

Symptoms:  Back pain and heart burn

Best moment this week: This has been a fun crazy couple of weeks!  We surprised my dad for his birthday at Red Robin two weekends ago, then had a surprise birthday party for Zach's dad this last weekend.  We had a wedding shower for Kodi and Shawn at church, and were able to help plan some wedding details.

What I'm Looking Forward To:We are planning on getting some projects done around the house this weekend.  My mom and sister are coming down Monday (woo-hoo for days off!) to hang out.
